Date: Saturday, 25 August 2001
Venue: Bogazici University Campus, Istanbul
Organiser: Malcolm Bolton
Aim: The principal aim of the Satellite Conference is to bring together those participants of the XVth ICSMGE who have an interest in the fundamental granular behaviour of soils. The occasion will be a springboard for the launch of the new TC35 “Micro-geomechanics”.
Content: Active research workers will show new technologies and concepts in soil testing and behavioural modelling. Three practical applications will be explored with reference to hydrocarbon reservoir development, re-use of mine waste materials, and pile driving. Finally, a Grand Inquisitor will explore “The Physical Meaning of Soil Parameters” with the help of a Panel of experts, and will ask the audience to condemn arbitrary parameters.
Style: The style will be informal and informative, interactive and invigorating.
